Inter Milan sealed their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League with a 2-1 victory over Feyenoord at the San Siro, confirming their superiority with a 4-1 aggregate win. Marcus Thuram was the star of the show with a spectacular goal, while the Dutch team tried to react without success.
The match was marked by the intervention of the VAR and a controversial penalty that generated discussion. Now, the Italian team prepares to face Bayern Munich in the next round.
Thuram Leads The Way With A Beautiful Goal
The match started with intensity and with no room for speculation. Inter, despite reserving key players such as Lautaro Martinez, Barella and Bastoni, came out determined to put the tie to bed from the start. The difference in quality was immediately apparent, and after just eight minutes Marcus Thuram opened the scoring with a superb individual effort.
The French striker received the ball on the left flank, faced the defense and, after a couple of feints, fired a powerful shot into the top corner. A goal that not only gave Inter the lead, but also left Feyenoord, who had the difficult task of coming back from behind.
Despite the early blow, the Dutch team tried to respond by pressing high and looking to surprise with quick attacks. However, the Italian defense was solid and prevented any clear goalkeeping from Yann Sommer's goal. Feyenoord's best chance came with shots from outside the box, but none managed to trouble the Swiss goalkeeper.
A Disputed Penalty Brings Hope to Feyenoord
Inter seemed to have the match under control until, in the last minutes of the first half, a play reviewed by the VAR changed the momentary course of the match. Jakub Moder fell in the box after contact with Çalhanoglu and Acerbi, and after review, the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
Moder took the responsibility and executed with precision, deceiving Sommer and tying the match. It was only the second goal Inter had conceded in the entire Champions League, reflecting the defensive solidity of Simone Inzaghi's team.
The goal encouraged Feyenoord, who came out for the second half with more confidence. However, every attacking attempt came up against a well-positioned defense and a midfield that gave no space. Despite their efforts, the visitors were unable to create any real danger.
Another Maximum Penalty And More Controversy
Just when Feyenoord seemed to be at their best, another penalty changed the course of the match. Beelen lost the ball when he came out from the back under pressure from Taremi, who went down inside the box. The play was highly disputed, as the contact seemed minimal or even non-existent, but the referee had no hesitation in pointing out the infringement.
Çalhanoglu was in charge of taking the penalty and he did it with confidence, placing the ball near the left post, impossible for Wellenreuther. With 2-1 on the scoreboard, the tie was completely settled and Inter managed the match at their own pace.
Feyenoord, already without much of a chance, tried to push forward in search of a miracle, but their lack of strength in the final third of the field ended up sentencing them to elimination. For their part, Inter controlled the game and avoided any surprises, ensuring their qualification without suffering in the final minutes.

A Quiet Closing And A Major Challenge Ahead
With ten minutes to go, Inter lowered their intensity and focused on managing their lead. Inzaghi took the opportunity to make changes and rest some of his players, thinking about the upcoming Serie A matches and, above all, the quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
Arnautovic had a clear opportunity to increase the lead, but decided to try a back-heel pass instead of finishing, allowing the opposing defense to clear the danger. With time practically running out, Feyenoord resigned themselves to elimination, while Inter celebrated a deserved passage to the next round.
With this victory, the Italian team continues to demonstrate its solidity and aspires to go far in the Champions League. The series against Bayern will be a litmus test for Inzaghi's team, who will have to show their best version if they want to continue advancing in the tournament.
