Genoa achieved an important victory with a 2-0 win over Venezia at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. In a tense and tense match, the home team managed to settle it in the last minutes with a great goal by Andrea Pinamonti and another goal by Maxwel Cornet. Johan Vázquez played an outstanding role at the back, helping to keep a clean sheet in a match in which the rival never stopped insisting.
An Unconvincing First Half
From the start, Genoa sought to impose conditions with a direct game, but Venezia responded with defensive order and some dangerous attempts in attack. The first big chance came early, when Andrea Pinamonti connected with a header from a corner kick, demanding a great save from Andrei Radu.
Venezia responded with Gaetano Oristanio, who tried a left-footed shot that forced Nicola Leali to intervene safely. Despite the intensity in the midfield and a few chances for both teams, the match lacked clarity in the final third of the field.
Just before the break, Hans Nicolussi generated the last great action of the first half with a shot-cross that almost surprised Leali, but the goalkeeper reacted in time to prevent the goal. With this, both teams went to the locker room with the score at zero and the feeling that the match was wide open.
Genoa Finds The Goals In The Final Stretch
The second half started with greater intensity on the part of Genoa, who understood that they had to take more risks to get the three points. Mattia Bani had the first great chance when he connected with a shot inside the six-yard box, but incredibly the ball went wide. Shortly after, Fabio Miretti set up Pinamonti, who fired a cross shot that Radu deflected with a great save.
Venezia did not give up the attack and put the home defense in trouble on several occasions. Nicolussi came up again with a tricky shot that bounced just before reaching Leali, but the goalkeeper saved Genoa again with another key intervention.
When it looked like the match was heading for a goalless draw, the home team found the key to open the scoring. Caleb Ekuban received a through ball and, after a great run, shot too powerfully and missed a clear opportunity. However, the next play proved to be the decisive one.
In the 82nd minute, Ekuban set up Pinamonti inside the box and the striker did not hesitate to hit his first-time shot. His shot placed at the far post left Radu with no options, who, despite his effort, could not prevent the 1-0. With this goal, Venezia were left with their backs to the wall and Genoa seized the moment. Just a few minutes later, Maxwel Cornet sealed the win with a left-footed shot after cutting inside the box, making it 2-0.

Three Key Points For Genoa
The win gives Genoa valuable points in their fight to stay in the middle of the table. Johan Vázquez had a solid performance, showing security in defense and preventing the rival attackers from finding space. His partnership with Mattia Bani continues to strengthen and was key to sustaining the lead.
For their part, Venezia gave a good performance, but lacked decisiveness in their final touch. Despite creating dangerous chances, they failed to beat an inspired Leali. The team must now look to bounce back in their next match to continue fighting for their Serie A goals.
